The George Collins Award – Kokoda Trail Presentation

On Friday August 14 commencing at 5.00pm sharp in the auditorium at Warragul RSL, three local students - Ella Clarke, Samantha Richards and Cohen Cogo all recipients of the George Collins Award Scholarship, will share their stories about their recent Kokoda Trek.
Since its inception in 2008, the George Collins Award—named in honour of a local serviceman who served on the Kokoda Track and the brainchild of retired MP Gary Blackwood—has provided young people with life-changing opportunities.
On 29 June 2026, Ben Vahland, The Honourable member for Narracan, Wayne Farnham and three Year 11 students from Baw Baw, recipients of the George Collins Award scholarship, completed the incredible challenge of trekking the historic Kokoda Trail.
Now it's your chance to hear their story.
Join them as they share their unforgettable journey through Papua New Guinea—the challenges they faced, the friendships they forged, and the lessons they learned about courage, endurance, mateship, and sacrifice.
Come along for an inspiring evening as these young people recount an experience that has deepened their appreciation of the Kokoda campaign, Australia's military history, and the enduring values of resilience, teamwork, and service.
